They were banned from gathering. I see no problem in the fine. Peaceful protest when people are allowed to protest again is fine.Trouble is, it's not that peaceful when people protest nowadays.

It would be sad if any party smuggled in yet more draconian laws under the banner of 'Covid'.

It's bad enough that you can't protest against fairy stories anymore (religion I mean) without death threats.

Let's let them demonstrate. I for one would like to hear their argument. Muffling it won't make it go away. It needs to be heard and then debated.

Er, frankly I *don't* want to hear the arguments of the British Union of Fascists, to be honest. We had this out at great length 75 years ago, and they lost.

Realise I'm late to the gig here, but why do you feel the need to protest religion?

Genuinely curious...

I think you are way off the mark Hampstead.

The scenario you paint of a lack of tolerance for atheism / argument at Speaker corner of all places is right up there with "You can't say your british anymore" argument.

I'd agree that extremist Islam is very intolerant of criticism of Mohammad (you linked one clear example of that) but to extrapolate that to suggest you can't argue the toss at speakers corner over religion is simply nonsense tbh.

I'm not agreeing with you.

It is not a lack of tolerance on my part. The lack of tolerance is in their court, always has been and always will be.

I do want the right to protest and also to choose what topic I protest.
If my protest offends people then pah. I am often offended by protests but don't ask for them to be stopped.

My main beef is with religion which is the biggest crime by humanity to humanity. What we allow others to do in the name of some 'fairy story' or other is immoral.
If some muslims don't like me mocking their fairy then pah. They burn the British flag and celebrate dead British soldiers. Let me mock their obvious intellectual gaps (that's where they believe a bloke in a cave etc etc) with polite humor.

I'm sorry but British society has become subservient to people who 'cannot be offended' and as such I stand with all the nutters and support the right of polite protest and free speech.

P.S: I would also write a routine which mocked all religions. Just to show fairness. I would be sad if I let some fairies off too lightly. Got to be fair to all of them.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Don't disagree with any of that.

It was your suggestion that you couldn't stand up on Speakers corner and be rude about religion without getting a reaction, including the police getting involved. I am firmly of the opinion that those who would take huge offense and react are very much in the minority, a very small minority.

You have the right to do all those things.

I just don't see why you would do it, given that you know it would be offensive.

And British society, I'd firmly argue, isn't subservient to those who "cannot be offended". Indeed, you've failed to give any example of anything you are not permitted to do.

Plus, his spouting off on Speakers corner about Religion would be entirely legal.

Their response, perhaps not.

I feel I would be banned from protesting even if it was with a gentle but of stand-up.

..and yet, you voted for a party that wants to maintain religious leaders in government and funds faith based schools.

that my friend is the poorest of poor arguments.

It's like Herbivore saying I couldn't be anti-religion because I was a soldier and the Queen was head of the CoE or something or other.

I voted Tory because of the majority of their policies.

Hands-up who voted for EVERY policy of the party whom they voted for? (tumbleweed).

Sorry but your argument is very flaky. All our three boys go to CoE primary schools because the teaching is the best in the area.
They all get/got told the same. Jesus and God are fairy stories and are not true.

You claim, you hate religion, and it is the worst thing about humanity.

You have referred to religion as evil and “.. biggest crime by humanity to humanity.”

You claim to be supportive of atheist thinkers, some of which call faith based schools, an abuse of children.

Political policies about how governments trade and spend money, pale into insignificance placed against “.. biggest crime by humanity to humanity. ”

You are coming across as a bit of blowhard with no real ethics. Anyone can talk big about hating a religion.

Can’t really be that a big issue for you.
