Palace, with all their Premier League riches, think that Downes is worth £1.6m, off the back of being our best player in League One last year and one of the few that looked good in the Championship the year before. He's 21, future captain material and has played for England U20's. This is the same amount that we paid for Kayden Jackson of Accrington off the back of scoring 14 goals in League Two. Jackson was 24 or 25 at the time. The fact that their offer is the same as what we paid roughly for Jackson is laughable. You could argue that Jackson has pretty much held his value or increased it, so it makes the offer for Downes more derisory. Especially when Championship QPR paid a million more for a defender today from Oxford who is three years older than Downes. You could argue the very fact Palace are interested in Downes at all means he's already way past the potential and ability he'd have to be for their offer. [Post edited 1 Sep 2020 17:06]
