Why on earth bring on your last sub after 55 mins when 1-0 up?! 16:27 - Oct 3 with 2928 views | Matt_Netherlands | Could do with Jackson running in behind. (Sub had been ready to make before MK scored!)

Why on earth bring on your last sub after 55 mins when 1-0 up?! on 09:34 - Oct 4 by PhilTWTD | Scenario didn't change too much though, we needed to get hold of the ball more. And actually we did that for the spell between the goal and Downes getting injured. |
Quite. People are so desperate to jump on this with hindsight, but if Downes hadn't got injured I think we'd have seen a very different last 25 mins. It's just unlucky, one of those things, and credit to the lads for hanging on for at least a point.

Why on earth bring on your last sub after 55 mins when 1-0 up?! on 09:31 - Oct 4 by BrixtonBlue | You're trying too hard fella. From Phil's report: "Having made their switches of personnel, the Blues started to see more of the ball than earlier in the half.' That's exactly what was needed, and is how we would've gone on to win. The Downes injury was just one of those things. |
Downes gave us a bit more in the middle than Bishop and that saw us winning back the midfield battle a bit. That doesn't explain or justify Judge for Sears, that change made no sense at the time and doesn't make any sense in hindsight either.

No. I dispute this. We thoroughly deserved to win our first 3 games this season, and should have won a couple of them by more goals with all the clearcut chances we had. |
It's very much like the start of last season. We aren't playing consistently well but our extra quality is telling most of the time.

I disagree. We have a shape and a system now that we're sticking to and everyone understands. We've created far more chances as a result, and are missing more than we did at the start of last season when virtually everything was going in.

See my response elsewhere. It's not true that almost everything was going in early last season. Norwood was missing numerous one on ones for starters. We had a largely settled system at the start of last season too, prior to Lambingo really kicking in from October time. Mostly we still look disjointed for large spells, but we've managed good spells in three of the four games where our extra quality has told and enabled us to win those games. Edit - just checked and we had 56 shots in our opening 4 games last season, and that included games against three sides that are better than anyone we've played so far this season in Sunderland, Peterborough, and Burton. This season we've had 46 shots in our opening four games. I think your characterisation of this season being much better than our start last season is wide of the mark. We've been better, yesterday aside, than we were from mid October onwards mostly but it's pretty similar to how we kicked off last season. [Post edited 4 Oct 2020 10:34]

I think that your creating far more chances statement is wrong. if anything we are creating less clear cut chances than in the early part of last season. edit-just to add I think that we are taking a higher proportion of our chances than we were this time last season [Post edited 4 Oct 2020 10:32]

The stats would tend to back this up, we were creating more at the start of last season against generally better opposition.

I have not looked at stats-I was just going on the information gleaned from being at/seeing every minute of every league game and the impression that was stored in my memory. I know the away game at Bolton was basically against a side of less than third division strength but we could quite easily have trebled the five goals that we did get. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I was at three of our opening four games so was going on memory, but then Dolly was gaslighting me about comparisons between the start of last season and the start of this season so I decided to check the stats to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. Turns out I wasn't, thankfully.
