Why can I no longer get net connection using Chrome? When Safari's fine 12:44 - Oct 9 with 4240 views | Ryorry | Any tech whizzos able to help pls? Now getting no more than a few Kbps on Chrome when it's worked at a good speed for over 4 years. Have deleted cookies/chaches for all time, didn't help; deleting last 7 days' browsing helped get me those few Kbps but not enough for hotmail or gmail. Maybe it was old version from about 2 years ago - would uninstalling and downloading new version help? Also - can anyone recommend phone service providers who do wifi calling from mobile please? Cheers if you can help.

I wonder if it was that as a temporary issue (but would it have allowed me to connect at all? as I was getting 800-900Kbps, enough for a basic html version of some sites to load, just not full versions or other sites). Anyway - just tried Chrome again on this, the Mac laptop, and unbelievably, it's back to normal this morning - getting 18-21 Mbps! What on earth can yesterday have been about then? I hadn't re-started or rebooted this morning. Apple advisor who I've just spoken with said they're not trained re Chrome (which I think is Android/gmail based) but he thought it was just a glitch with the app. Am currently only using about 33% of storage/memory, so isn't that. Btw I must say to all who diss Apple products that Apple support really is A1, their advisors are the bees knees in 1-1 support for sorting out all problems either by phone (they call you back) or chat. Don't think you get that using Windows!

What virus software does your computer have? I know my mum's computer has McAfee which was blocking Microsoft edge for example Not normally a problem but she likes to start her web browsing from the start bar rather bizarrely

Just Malwarebytes - was told by Apple advisor last time I had a problem (blackscreen, about a year ago iirc) that was all I needed - hope that's correct!

That's probably correct. Apologies for not responding yesterday, real life got in the way. Glad to see it's at least sorted for the moment.

Why can I no longer get net connection using Chrome? When Safari's fine on 22:28 - Oct 9 by Ryorry | That's really interesting, I was thinking about it but decided to go with Firefox as my second browser, just on the grounds of familiarity really - am on that now and quite pleased with it - not quite as fast as Chrome (when it was working at its best) or Safari, but far more user-friendly than the latter. Can actually see tabs! and it's storing my logins, which Safari didn't. What's good about Brave that makes you recommend it? |
Brave is chrome but with a load of the tracking shlt turned off.

Why can I no longer get net connection using Chrome? When Safari's fine on 13:40 - Oct 10 with 343 views | wkj | Chrome started out to be a low resource browser and now it performs so much worse. I would consider looking into a Mozilla (Firefox) derivative again as they're starting to get on board with resource management much better now.

Mmm, on same device (Mac laptop now) Firefox is consistently getting 22 Mbps whereas only 21 Mbps on Chrome (still pretty good I think for a basic "family surf" £19.99 monthly via LAN). Chrome always needs quitting and re-opening at least once per 24 hrs, as otherwise it slows to freezing point - perhaps the poor wee thing just gets tired - I do have loadsa tabs open (about 77 across 4 windows) on it!
