I know this link is the daily mail, but the situation with these super trawlers cannot be allowed to continue. In 20 years there will be no sea-life left especially if the Chinese start fishing these waters as well.

Oh, so you're finally looking into the reality of the UK fishing industry after spouting off nonsense about it yesterday. Well done, mate. Baby steps.

Both are linked or can't you see that? Still I don't remember a British trawler of that size.

If you voted Tory then I'm afraid your vote helped to end the fishing opportunities that local fishermen like my dad and grandad used to earn a crust from. Your vote put my family out of a job and now you're on here trying to lecture me about it.

Sorry pal but when Ted Heath took the path to take us into the common market I was not able to vote due to my young age. That was when the rot started and you well know it, trouble was back then the Labour Party opposed joining, funny how they've changed their minds.
So don't blame me blame all those who voted then, and again when Wilson had his referendum.
Always the same old language as usual from you and your little follower.
Like I said yesterday enjoy the rest of the weekend and hope you have something nice to look forward to, other than being abusive.

So, what about more difficult and expensive trade, restricted travel, massive deregulation, lowered food standards, etc, etc are you most looking forward to?

Not sure, but do you think it is ok to trawl with nets the size of football pitches?
I am merely stating facts that are happening now and have been for some time, do you not care about the environment?

It wasn't Heath who sold our most recent quotas to EU industrial fishing companies, you absolute clown. Again, you know nothing and don't care to. A typical Brexiteer, proud of your own dribbly ignorance.

Brexit won't revitalise fishing towns or give back quotas to British fishermen. If you think it will, then you are even more deluded than I thought, sir*.

or,

no one had a chance to vote, as it was a government decision

and as to what is caught perhaps you might care to tell us how much of the UK fishing quotas has been sold to non UL boats

or why the UK has left the Common Fisheries Policy which is there "to ensure that European fishing is sustainable, balancing the desire to maximise catches with conserving fish stocks."

So try having some idea about this, before spouting ill-informed right wing nonsense

You probably missed gazzer's efforts at logic yesterday about leaving the EU and what fishing in the UK could be like from now on. He doesn't care about the environment, he's just a deluded Brexit idiot.

Have Labour changed sides exactly?

When do you think that may have happened and why?

Say Corbyn, go on, you know you want to.

I dislike those super trawlers but let's not go all a blaming the EU for those things. The FV Margiris as the news hogging example last year was being touted as a main culprit for its visible slog along the Solvent which was bringing gasps galore and cries from our shores of how the Aussie government wouldn't stand for such a thing and we're just a pushover etc.

The truth was although the damn thing was Dutch owned it was leased by an Aussie firm previously; Seafish Tasmania and was renamed at the time to reflect that: 'Abel Tasman'.

It was after a strong and lengthy campaign by Greenpeace Australia that the petitions began to escalate and the government finally caved in and banned it from Australian waters.

This was years ago.

That you and others suddenly think this is a new phenomena says how much interest you've shown on the subject.

I stress, I hate the things but let's not go down the route that they're some kind of EU concept. They are a contested issue worldwide.

For balance, they are deemed by many to be 'cleaner' than we are led to believe by campaigners, being fitted with the latest devices intended to avoid catching the wrong stock etc and are intended to be economical.

The Margiris was boarded by officials too when working the Channel and everything was found to be above board and correct.

I just don't like that a single object can drag so much from the water in one go, but I don't have all the facts to be fair.

*Edit: as others have also spelled out, there was no vote to join the Common Market either.

You mean like all the trawler men in Fleetwood that were paid by the EU to break up their vessels so they were unable to be used again.
Sorry pal but I care about the oceans and the environment and that was what my OP was about if you don't care fine it's your life and I won't knock you for that it's what you think. I am surprised how many try to change what was first spoken about into something else.

No, they re not breaking any laws.

They are there to catch the quota they are allowed and are governed by the same laws as everyone else.

It cannot be stressed enough that it was UK companies who sold out much of the country's fishing rights. (In the 90s? - possibly some then and some before then too).

Like any business, you cannot sell your shares and then complain you want them back at a later date.

Are you a brexiteer by any chance, you don't sound to bright ?

Remember it is your lot who wanted the UK to opt out of the CFP - rather like claiming to care for animals then wanting the RSPCA closed down.

I did not say they were breaking laws. But what about all of the sea life they hoover up and through back, surely that's a moral law.
With regards the fishing rights being sold off, they probably could not compete with these trawlers so had no option.
But hey ho if you are happy with that then so be it.

If you care about all that environmental stuff you should probably join some left wing parties and stop voting for right wing crud. Get involved with XR mate!

See, read back what you just said there.

"If you're happy with it".

You have completely made that up. Do you see a pattern here?

I have posted some facts on the matter in a bid to hold an adult conversation and you come up with that. See why it's pointless to even try?

Edit: As for selling off the rights 'because they probably couldn't compete'.

What on earth are you talking about? The clue is in the word 'quota'.

And those things didn't exist the way they do now back then. The companies that sold off their quotas? Possibly some of them didn't even own any boats! The rights would have gone out to tender and then been sold on.

You have some views of local fishermen with their own local vessels. What we are discussing is a massive commmercial scale.
