Who is the 5th Beatle? 09:22 - Dec 18 with 3253 viewsitfcjoe

In recent days I've gone back to Mark Lewisohn's definitive Beatles book, All These Years.

It truly is an epic, and well worth a read for any Beatles fan.....

I come away from it thinking, that there is no doubt that the 5th Beatle is Brian Epstein, without him and his backing in time and money, borne out of a love for the boys and what they could do then it's not a stretch to think they'd have just drifted away to nothingness on the Liverpool scene.

Session drummer Andy White played on a few of The Beatles early recordings.

Only on the single version of Love Me DO. RingGo played on the album version.

And of course there was Jimmy Nichols on Drums for the Australian tour when Ringo had his tonsils out.

I thought it was the other way round? Lennon bring Pete Shotten into the band?

Strange how people still talk about this 60 years later!

You may well be right.

Not sure if its true or somewhat apocryphal but didn't John and Paul meet at some local fete or similar in the late 50's in a churchyard that has a gravestone for an Eleanor Rigby

Ringo did actually play on the single version, he was on 1 of the 3 recordings but the one that actually was released was Ringo.

I think it was later re-released with ANdy White, and his was the album version with Ringo playing tambourine

Yes. The gravestone for John and Eleanor Rigby is at St Peter's Graveyard Woolton, which is where Paul met John at the church fete held in the same church grounds.
