6-36 currently , what a cricketer, at his age and in Sri Lanka.

Are you on drugs or something?

I'm on drugs. The best cricketer of all time was Sir Geoffrey Boycott.

The best cricket of all time has to be an all rounder, someone who was both a world class batsmen & bowler. For me it would have to be Sir Garfield Sobers.

Have only seen footage of Sobers (mainly clobbering Malcolm Nash down the streets of Swansea).

When I first got into cricket, there were a few great all-rounders altogether at the same time and the tag line to the series was often the battle within the battle between these men.

Ranking them is tough. Imran was probably the best all-round all-rounder, Botham was more the fiery bowler (up till late 80s when his back went) with hard hitting cameos with the bat, Kapil Dev was probably the best talisman of the group who could change a game on it's head in an instant. Richard Hadlee I considered the best bowler of the group but more a lower order batter. If SA had not been excluded, a case could have made for Procter and Rice as well.

For more modern day all-rounders, Kallis would absolutely have to be up there though his bowling did take a back seat towards the end.

Great post.

I’d go Waqar Younis for my bowler, but I did watch a lot of Surrey when he was there. What a bowler though. An absolute menace. Ferocious.

In terms of turning a game on its head, it’s Adam Gilchrist for me.

Kallis is certainly up there for the all rounders. He did it for years as well which pulls him above the likes off Freddie, who had the game.

Kapil Dev for me. But Stokes still has cricket ahead of him. Watch that space.

Yep. Stokes is set for legend status. I mean, he's more or less there already but something like leading us to a series win in India or Australia would cement that.

The advantage for the modern day players in England is the central contracts. I'm actually in awe of players like Botham, Willis, Gooch etc who would play a five day test, then rock up to somewhere like Canterbury to play a 3 day County Championship match, broken up by a John Player League game on the Sunday. The cricketing equivalent of Town's 80-81 66 game slog!

Edit. And yeah, Waqar was something else. That 1992 series with him and Wasim was carnage.

Kallis was a fine player but he was rather selfish particularly when batting. He was often accused about playing more for himself and his average rather than in the best interests of the team which tars his legacy slightly in my eyes.

Best cricketer in the history of the game.

Change my mind....

In the bowling department you can put a case forward for Muralitharan, Warne, McGarth. I think you can even add Wasim Akram to the debate.

In the batting department you can argue Bradman, Lara, Tendulkar

In the all rounders department you have Sobers, Richards, Kallis, Hadlee, Khan.

Englands best debate would include Botham, Cook, Gooch, Stokes & Anderson.

Anderson is unquestionably Englands greatest bowler of all time.

Looks a bowler short.

Edit. That's because there's only 10 men!

Jon Snow for the last place? Willis?

Problem is for those of us wanting to watch it..... Disney! has the rights to the series so not Sky or BT.

Disney + £5.99 via the India Hotstar app if you want to watch it.

Update, looks like BT, Sky and Channel 4 are now trying to secure the rights in a last ditch effort to show it on TV.

Channel 4 would be good for nostalgic 2005 memories....... and making it available during a dull dreary winter for a lot of people.

Most would certainly put Geoff Boycott in the same category.
I was told that a young Yorkshire opener ran Boycott out early doors & then begged the opposition not to get him out for the next half hour so that Boycott might calm down a bit.
