The frustrating inconsistency of the Duncan era can be summed up in three successive results from his final season in charge of us:

26 December 1989 vs West Ham (H) Won 1-0
30 December 1989 vs Middlesbrough (H) Won 3-0
Back to back home wins against two sides which had been relegated from the top flight the previous season. All of which teed us up for:

1 January 1990 vs Port Vale (A) Lost 5-0
Our heaviest league defeat since August 1985 (vs Liverpool) against a side promoted from Division 3....and we didn't win in the league until March.

I remember going to the West Ham game as a kid even though I had gastric flu and hadn't eaten in days. The chocolate bar Twirl had just come out and I ate one at half time and was promptly sick. Didn't touch another one for year! My waist line wishes I still didn't Hardly had the energy to cheer Stockwell's late winner! Twtd

I really liked Louie Donowa.

I loved "Louie Louie Donowa" I saw him score an amazing solo goal for the reserves once. Was too much of a maverick talent for John Duncan though.
