The kind of player Silverwood wants to build around. Going back to old school meticulous test cricket. I've got a massive amount of admiration for someone who can just stand and take everything thats thrown at him all day and not lose his head easily.

Probably, but nothing wrong in optimism and hope. Eng v NZ has the potential to be a cracking series. Shame we have never seen the Kiwis as being more worthy than 2/3 tests. |  |

This is the thing about Sibley, he's not pretty and he's limited with his shots, but he bats time and obviously has a strong mental approach. Very much a throw back to the older generation of cricketers. Hope he gets to his 100 too! |
With non-multi format players, the pressure is off them to be more than one type of player. Years ago, your test team would also more or less be your limited overs side as well and you'd often be picked on the basis of how you perform in the other form of the game. I can recall many times when a bowler was picked for a winter tour on the back of a MOTM performance in the Natwest Trophy final.
Sibley has no pressure on him to be more expansive as he will get nowhere the white ball side anyway, so he can be our rock and soak up 300 odd deliveries a day for as long as he wants and allow the stroke players to play around him. A vital player if he carries on doing this and continue to improve against spin. [Post edited 5 Feb 2021 11:01]

Yep, I had this down as 5 weeks in India back before everything went to tits. Hopefully won't be too long before we're back in Asia. Maybe a return to Pakistan isn't too far of a stretch as well. |  |

If Stokes sticks around for a bit that scoreboard can end up looking ridiculous quite quickly. Buttler to come as well. Going to be hard to get a result on this pitch so our best bet is to post such a massive first innings score that India have no chance at all of winning and feel the pressure of needing to bat out a draw. |  |
