TWTD Runners 20:10 - Mar 8 with 984 views | Swailsey | So, my Apple Watch has packed up. Or at least I think it has. It pauses every 20 seconds into a run. I’ve stopped calorie counting now, so I’m just looking for a very, very basic way of timing my 5ks - i.e. Start/Stop, accurately measure distance. Not too fussed about other features/figures - I just want to be able to time how long my runs take. If no one can solve my Apple dilemma (I have Googled all evening), can someone recommend a cheap version (ideally under £50) to suit my needs? I can’t offer anything but thanks and some ham fisted Colin Healy reference. Thank you.

You can get a holder for your arm or waist cheap enough or failing that just carry it (just make sure you don’t fall over and need your hands!)

I use Strava and Map My Run and both are fine. Map My Run is funded by Under Armour so not overly amateur

I have a running belt - presumably the phone can go in there too, or does it need to be on your arm? I’ve never totally gotten on with arm straps. (Edit: thanks) [Post edited 8 Mar 2021 20:45]

Doesn’t matter where it goes. It’ll use the GPS in the phone / app itself

TWTD Runners on 20:45 - Mar 8 with 877 views | GlasgowBlue | Are you using the workout ap in your Apple Watch or a third party ap such as Nike running or Strava? The best fixes for an Apple Watch is to do a reset. The other thing yiu may want to check is doe you have auto pause switched on. If so then if you stop the ap will pause until you re start. Standard Apple app. Auto pause is off. Part of me thinks that’s it’s me..or user error. I swapped the old watch later year as it suddenly started doing the same thing, despite hard resets etc. No matter how fast I’m running, it just keeps pausing.

In normal times you could take it to the Genius Bar at your local apple store. If they can’t fix it there’s a fair chance that you’ll walk out with a reconditioned watch that they keep in store. Apple are very good like that.

TWTD Runners on 14:32 - Mar 9 with 555 views | ADStephenson | I've got some not very helpful advice... I recently saw a running harness advertised that looked great if you want to run with your phone. It strapped over the shoulders like a tiny backpack and had a flip down pouch for your phone so you could check it easily whilst on the move. It was either velcro or magnetic so easy to undo and do up. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it and a quick search has yielded no useful results... I've never got on with arm straps holders - I fear my arms are too skinny.

TWTD Runners on 14:51 - Mar 9 with 528 views | Swailsey | Thanks everyone. I did solve my issue - I downloaded the MapMyRun app onto the Apple Watch and it seems to work fine now... Apparently it's a known issue with Apple Watches. Their default app can sometimes struggle to 'see' through tattoos...I don't really understand how that can be a thing but there you go!
