Our player of the season 09:55 - May 22 with 3745 views | textbackup | “I think we under-achieved in terms of the fans’ eyes, but if you look at the squad on paper we weren’t really ready to get promoted.” Underachieved in fans eyes - so Wilson felt the season was ok That’s one hell of a mentality

Our player of the season on 15:10 - May 22 by itfcjoe | Well there was a feeling before Lambert went they were staying in touch in spite of him not because of him.......I can't say I've spoken much to anyuone since Cook came in, but nothing I hear (which is nearly all second hand at the moment) is particularly good with how he has been since he came in |
Second hand is all most of us have isn’t it really. I think it’s pretty obvious that the players didn’t like him - the big question none of us seem to really know the answer to is why didn’t they like him? Why didn’t any of them show any inclination to step up to the plate and do things his way when he first came in? Cricket, he came here with a pretty good CV at this level. I’d have thought he was just the sort of manager they would have at least attempted to put their trust in and given everything to do things his way. I’m not sure I’m ready to buy any narrative that suggests he alienated them after just a week or two - though I’m sure that happened after a couple of months when he was just fed up with them for one reason or another. It does concern me that Chambers really didn’t seem that dissatisfied with what has happened to the team. Yes, it was a shame, but then goes on to imply that they’ve all been trying their best so they can’t complain! Wilson’s interview seems to suggest the same. That attitude of simply accepting the situation as inevitable just cannot be right and my suspicion is that that is what Hurst and Cook have called out and the players for whatever reason haven’t been able or perhaps willing to shake themselves out of.

Our player of the season on 15:56 - May 22 by itfcjoe | Had we not done that we’d have 14 or so senior pros, and only pressure to shift a couple out from there - feels like it puts a lot of pressure to get a lot right done. But who knows at what level those decisions were made to keep them |
Some might have clubs lined up already and go on a nominal fee. Who knows. I think the first week in June will tell us a lot about who's going and who's coming in. It feels like the calm before the storm in an exciting way.

Our player of the season on 15:47 - May 22 by itfcjoe | Yep, the Dyer interview gives some hope for what he is doing - do think we have tried to be too clever in taking options on players and trying to shift them - we had a good opportunity to totally revitalise and refresh squad - which I personally think was right thing to do......but we seem to have made that harder for ourselves unnecessarily so. |
That’s how I feel. Just have to hope that he knows what he’s doing.

Cook probably did go too early with the statement that he wanted his own players as the Wilson interview alludes too but in any competitive person surely that would bring out the "I'll show you" mentality or at least make sure they put themselves in the shop window. This lot......nothing.

Yeah too many that I fear could end up starting if targets aren’t brought in. Donacian for example

I suspect it is also an insurance policy in case PC cannot get the players in that he wants. Getting 10-15 senior pros that make us better may take more than a window. By taking the options and not settling contracts of those he does not really fancy, he knows he has a squad that despite its shortcoming is not far off getting into the play-offs. As he brings in the players he wants, he will allow the player currently acting as cover to leave. Also, while tempting to simply get rid, 60% of any transfer fees we get in will go towards the salary pot next season, which will be important despite the investment by the new owners.
