My read of this then is that while Mass Shootings are a huge tragedy the issue of gun deaths in the US is many many times worse than mass shootings alone indicate.


Very true. In Chicago alone the numbers killed are staggering yet they don’t fit into the mass shooting category.

These are just insane figures for a developed western country. The U.S really does need to have a word with itself. Not that I can see it ever happening.

I know this is a bit off topic but interestingly its been shown that removing a means of suicide actually reduces deaths. People don't always seek alternate means of killing themselves as the act of suicide is often linked to a specific means of doing so in a phenomenon know as coupling.


Trudat. When I started training, pretty much every ward I worked on as a student had a horrific tale of the endgame of a paracetamol overdose. Nowadays, thanks to the 'no more than 16 tablets a shop' rule, they're pretty rare.
