An interesting footnote to this thread today. Maurice Steijn, one time town ‘future manager’ has resigned from his current job in charge at NAC Breda. The reason for the resignation was the threats made towards Steijn and his family following power struggles within the club. There are many good things about the way the Dutch follow the national side, but at club level the picture definitely often a lot less harmonious.

I think there is a day tripper element of chair throwers at places where you can get to easily, but regular England fans travel in numbers to other places and seem to do just fine.

I went to a game at Den Haag a few years ago. The oppo weren’t a top team, but brought a few fans who sang and supported in a seemingly jolly way. Fans mixed outside the ground without a hint of aggro.
Much like club football in the majority of UK these days, a nice family affair. Does anyone still feel a need to hide their scarf in this day and age? It’s certainly not the same as 30+ years ago.
However, put some of those fans in tribal situation, like a European away game or following the national team, and the situation changes. We all celebrate our club and some are rude about the opposition. Put this into nationalistic terms and it can get pretty nasty pretty quickly. We need more songs about pleasant rolling countryside and a nice lunch at a decent pub, that’s the England I adore.

How many football matches do you actually attend Noggin; I go to nearly all ITFC matches and loads of England games. Indeed I am at Wembley for all the Euro games apart from the final. Ipswich/England supporters have no larger percentage of 'dicks' than any other clubs/nations in my experience. The camaraderie amongst fans has been excellent in the two games so far. Were their small pockets of 'idiots' - yes, but to label it as you have is I guess to further your political stance against all things English. I have made many friends of all persuasions from football and long may it continue.

Why are are you bringing Ipswich, or any club fans, into this?
I'm an England supporter and as such, it shames me to see and hear other England supporters shaming our nation. How is that a "political stance against all things English"? I would say it's a stance against dickheads who bring shame on my homeland. If you can't accept criticism of sections of English society, you might well be a part of the problem.

I am just not sure why you seem to be tarring all England supporters with the same brush. Oh and yes I can accept criticism of sections of English society; unlike you though my glass is always half full and I prefer to dwell on the good in our country which by far outweighs the bad. I guess though if I say that I am proud to be English, proud to fly a flag at Wembley, proud to live in such a wonderful part of the world and mix with all sorts people, then I will be given some sort of label by those of you who seem to condemn everything about our country.

You sound pretty paranoid to me. Why would anyone have a problem with you being a proud Englishman? Oh and where did I tar all English people with the same brush?

"Why do English fans have to act like dicks when following the national team?"
Literally your opening post in this thread.

If it was one or two, it wouldn't be such a problem, so "so many" is not wrong.

On the day Russia was sanctioned by Uefa over events inside Marseille’s Stade Velodrome on Saturday, when their supporters charged at the England section, they were also warned any further instances of hooliganism inside Euro 2016 stadiums would result in immediate disqualification.
The piece above is what kicked of the trouble you are showing below. I am not defending the English behaviour but please try and give a balanced view. I have been frightened on many occasions supporting England but there are two sides to most stories.
I am pleased that you have had to go back five years!

Always the victims. You think there wouldn't have been trouble without Russians being there? There are numerous videos of England fans causing trouble without Russians being around.

What are they trashing?
Leicester Square and Covent Garden. They were an absolute disgrace Friday. If that had been England fans it would have been a headline writers wet dream. Also, had situations where bottles etc have been thrown on the pitch in the last few games, comments from the press, nothing. Huge double standards as usual.

Ah I see, when 'trash' was mentioned, I envisaged people smashing windows, throwing furniture and attacking the police. Obviously you were using an American term for rubbish. I'm not sure that's any worse than a music festival or warm day on Bournemouth beach tbh. I'm not defending the litter louts, I was just expecting more violent behaviour.

When you see thousands of England fans following their national team what percentage do you think are out of order just out of curiosity?

Well I saw first hand three separate occasions where Scots were charging towards and throwing stuff at the police after the game. Absolutely no need for it as well as wasn’t any issues at all. Also, Leicester Square was an absolute wreck, much worse than a few bits of rubbish being left here and there.

Shame on them if it happened. I haven't seen or read anything about it.
You seem to have failed to notice that I started a thread about Hungarian Nazis and another praising England fans for not booing the knee on Friday.
Edit. Why I praised them for not being dicks, I don't know. Not being a dick is no grounds for praise.

Trashing the place, getting naked in the streets, abusing a well known Asian Rangers supporter with mental health issues (chucking him in a fountain, calling him an orange bastard, punching him from behind)…
