Was it Southgate’s plan to not win tonight… on 14:56 - Jun 19 by chrismakin | There is however a big difference in telling players not to win and not doing anything to get a win. Grealish and Rashford subs weren't really going to change much and as mentioned in another thread some of his arm movements for us to slow down at certain points also showed that he was happy with how it was going. Not wanting to lose is different to not wanting to win. |
You are still suggesting he deliberately held back because he wasn't eager to seek a win. You are also assuming that the Scots wouldn't score themselves whilst England took it relatively easy. I don't really want to get into another slanging match but to say that's just stupid is an understatement. You talk to yourself about stuff you invent if you like, but do leave me out of it.

No need to have a slanging match Jerra. And I'm not alone in thinking his mindset was more dont lose than get the win. It's not unusual for managers to do so and as long as we qualify it doesnt matter. It may work in our favour depending on how the group finishes going into the knockout stages. Happy for you to disagree no problem.

It's a bit different suggesting the priority was not to lose to somehow thinking it was all part of the plan as some people seem to. It's no secret Southgate is a bit too cautious. I like Southgate but he got it wrong last night. I shared Ian Wright's reaction to Foden being taken off. Depending on how this tournament goes I would potentially like a new manager for the world cup. Too much attacking talent to have someone so pragmatic and cautious in charge. Hoping he proves me wrong and guides us to the title obviously.

Yeah I just see it as he genuinely felt scotland were a threat and didnt want to take to many risks and was happy to take the point from it. Any personal choices youd want to see in for the world cup?

I think he wanted to keep it tight and thought there was enough attacking talent to get a goal or two. Not sure who i'd like to see some in to be honest. Should be an Englishman though IMO.

The very concept that England would deliberately have aimed for a draw [in order to aim for 2nd group place] is being roundly mocked by the panel on ITV right now. Well, a few moments ago.

Was it Southgate’s plan to not win tonight… on 22:15 - Jun 19 with 318 views | WeWereZombies | Y'know, if the Football Association had not codified the laws of the game in 1863 this question would never have arisen - and where was that meeting? The Freemasons Tavern in Great Queen Street, London, that's where. This whole thread is part of a fiendish plot by the Illuminati...
