As for the claim as others have put it will primarily be down to financial remuneration for the use of the image, which could/should have been sorted many many years ago. The guy himself has a tatto of ‘Nevermind’ across his chest and posed for photos, done interviews etc on various anniversaries of the album release so has used that to his gain before.. now on the 30th anniversary is deciding there is more money owed.

Perhaps he's a little disappointed that he wasn't asked to recreate the image for the 30th anniversary, and decided to look elsewhere to replace the income upon which he's relied until now.
