I think this is a great initiative, and the Royal family could make a really strong, positive statement to the whole world by saying a simple "Yes, let's do it".

Think you would have to give grants larger then those currently available from farming etc to encourage re-wilding.

Wasn't thinking of re-wilding, as it happens. As I said earlier, I think you have to embrace that 100% for it to work, which just ain't feasible in the UK for reasons Zombers mentioned. We're not the USA, we just don't have the landmass.

Which isn't to say other steps couldn't be taken of course, as Swansea mentioned.

Even on a smaller scale, little things like encouraging wild Meadows could be done easily enough by making the grants available for this larger those available for farming
