Along with Norman Jay, Colin Curtis, Ian Levine and Ian Hill, Tony Blackburn was one of the most influential soul DJ's of the 70's and 80's. Introducing a lot of black American and UK artists who weren't being played on mainstream radio.

He was, but the direction of his career meant that it wasn’t recognised. I remember hearing the Lenny Gamble track and not knowing till someone told me it was him! However the Toe-Knee Blackburn song is best left alone!
