Phil reports

interim Town boss John McGreal says a couple of players have had to drop out of the squad ahead of Saturday’s home game with Sunderland having come into close contact with people with Covid but there have been no positive tests

Presumable unvaccinated players. Wonder how many there are.

Or could be they don’t want the risk of I spreading through the squad and taking extra precautions.

One of the players house mate has it, so obviously coming into close contact its best he stays away. Nothing to do with vaccination status!

regardless of vaccination status I understood if you have been in close contact with anyone who has the omicron variant you have to self-isolate. So could be triple jabbed, but you should still isolate. So we can't presume the players are not fully vaccinated.

It's been widely reported that you can still carry the virus (to various degrees) to others even once you've been vaccinated. Especially if you're only double jabbed which judging by the average age of the squad is probably the majority. So people self-isolating once they have come in contact is rather sensible and has nothing to do with them having the jab or not.

To be fair to the OP I think his main point was there have been no [announced?] positive test results.

Which you would think would be a deciding factor.

However, not being privy to whatever's going on it's pointless to be speculating too much.

Given Omicron's ability to spread and infect people with only two does of the vaccine then not necessarily, a booster jab has only been available to most of those under 40 since last week.

There are also a very high number of professional footballers nationally who have refused to get vaccinated.
