Looks like Kenlock is still around. Must be a very weird situation for him, training every day knowing you’re not even eligible to play. He’s probably as good as Penney too.

Wonder if he, Jackson and Nolan will finally get moved on in January

I don't disagree too much with your last paragraph (though Championship is a stretch for me - he played a lot of games for a team relegated by February).

My point is that Penney is a superior left back and overall player, which I really don't think anyone not on the wind up can disagree with.

Choosing between Wolfenden and Kenlock won't have been a hard decision.

Are Coulson and Penney better than Kenlock? Yes. That's why he's not been registered, it's not because he's terrible. We just have better options (when fit).

The reason we were relegated by February was nothing to do with playing Kenlock and everything to do with many other changes made. Woolfenden couldn't even get into that team and was sent out on loan.

I would suggest that Penney and Coulsen are different types of player as much as better. I think the tactics would have to adjust for having a player like Kenlock in instead of one of them. I maintain that any player with the amount of appearances as Kenlock has for a manager like MM is more than adequate as a squad player. There are plenty who did perfectly decent jobs for MM who fans dismiss as not good enough. I would rate MM's judgment over any fan. The fact that he then made even more appearances for managers that followed show it wasn't anything about MM alone.

For Kenlock's sake I hope his situation is clearly resolved in January (and I expect it will be too). However, I have no issue with him being squad cover if that suits McKenna. I suspect him to move on but we will see. I see him very much like Donacien. Played in a role that suits him we would see a very effective player. Having a good solid defender in defence does not mean we cannot play exciting attacking football either.

Why do you think that is?

Because Cook prioritised his own signings over the players already here. He’s not that good - using your eyes can tell you that. It’s a shame Coulson’s been dogged by injuries.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

He did indeed, and he signed them because they were and are better players than Kenlock.

Agree on Coulson. The full backs are a big part of why Cook never got his team fully up and running. He probably felt he couldn't fully trust Penney hence his dropping (though Clements was never going to be an adequate replacement). He also didn't go into the season seeing JD as his right back, but after seeing the difference between him and KVY defensively, he couldn't afford not to change his thinking.

I was more thinking Nolan dropped from squad, Kenlock in, new loanee to replace Coulson.
Jackson - should be playing regularly somewhere and it surely won’t be here, imagine getting anyone to pay his wages could be the problem. Maybe a loan to buy. Burns cover as replacement.

Jackson will be on quite high wages & with one league goal in the last season and a half, his transfer value with 6 months left on his contract will be negligible.

Sorry - yes by loan to buy I wasn’t imagining we’d actually get any money for him. Loan to get free more accurate.

Because Cook signed Penney and Coulsen and then in the call between Woolfenden and Kenlock decided that Woolfenden can cover left back as well as play CB so went with Woolfenden.

Why do you think 3 previous managers gave Kenlock over 100 appearances between them?

We should not be looking at Kenlock as a key player for us but I don't get the general dislike of him. He would be a perfectly acceptable squad player in this league and for most clubs in the league above.

Seems a decent enough low maintenance bloke but just runs into too many tight spots without a right foot or a trick to get him out of it. Like others, I have some sympathy, but it was probably his (and the wrong) decision to stay and fight for a place in the 25 when change was in the air.

Did he have any choice? I don't expect there are a lot of clubs chasing him. But I wouldn't be disappointed with him as squad cover in the Championship let alone in League 1. As you say, he is not what you want as a first choice regular if you have designs on promotion.
