So is it Sunderland, Wycombe, Plymouth as Town then? 21:49 - Mar 1 with 4640 viewsunstableblue

Great Oxford lost, but still think they're going to have enough, they're a seasoned play-off drive team

With Pompey and Bolton in the wings.

Think Sheff Weds squad quality is coming through and they'll get away.. as I hope ours will fully for the remaining game (just fix the front 3 selection).... and the Owls have a game in hand....

If teams win their games in hand, surely we're 9 points behind the top six? Wednesday would be on 64 and Plymouth on 62. We're 9 behind 62.

That would also put us in 10th position, behind Portsmouth, with 11 games left. If we were to finish in 10th, that would be our lowest league position since the 1950s (of any fully completed season).

It's quite depressing to think that K-Mac has come in and improved our defence (our weak point previously) so much, and undoubtedly improved our PPG very substantially in a short space of time, and yet we're somehow effectively in 10th position (on PPG currently). But we still have a chance, and K-Mac is undoubtedly the man to lead us. So onwards and upwards...

I now make it 6 points...

Oxford have played a game more than us so the gap to them in sixth place assuming all teams have played 36 games is six points

I think you've summed it up. This division has been so unpredictable and so within those teams they could finish in any order yet, but it is hard to imagine any above falling down or those further below sneaking in.

If we don’t go up ( probably) this yr!
Who would you like to go up ?

Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday have competing support to us. But both can’t go up as they won’t get 1st or 2nd.

Rotherham, Wigan ( with the manager we should have got last yr)
And Sheffield are my 3!

Well first off I hope we can hopefully put to death the myth that this is an easy league, with poor quality, and Town have a right to not be in it.

At this point in time Rotherham, Wigan, MK, Sheff Weds, Oxford, Plymouth and Sunderland represent a difficult set of rivals, add to that Bolton and Pompey

To your question I think Rotherham and Wigan will take the top two, and then naturally you think Weds or Sunderland, due to scale. But I do think Weds could struggle if mired down here. And Oxford and MK worry me… Manning is the real deal, and Oxford are going to go up at some point

Either way it will be an incredible achievement for McKenna to get us promoted next season.

I beleive we need to win 4 out of 5 in March to stand a chance now. Not mathematically, but realistically. It's a tall order, but that is the point. If we can do something outstanding, we will achieve something incredible. It's not the hope that kills in this situation as its an outside chance at best.

Fleetwood (A)
Lincoln (H)
Portsmouth (H)
Oxford (A)
Plymouth (H)

The games against the higher sides are crucial as we need to stop Portsmouth catching us and must eat into Plymouths lead on us if we want to overtake them into 6th place. But that's going to be irrelevant unless we go into the Portsmouth game on 59pts imo.

If we were to take the view that Plymouth, Sunderland and Wycombe are the sides to catch in order to finish 6th, so Oxford can go, then the Oxford game is the loseable one on the basis that 12 out of 15 points would probably still outscore the teams we're chasing and trying to stay ahead of.

I think 12 out of 15 would put us on 65 points from 40 played with 6 games to go and at 2ppg over the remaining 6 would take us to 77 points.

We need a "BURST" of form if we're going to do this and it needs to happen now, or never.

Because we've taken 2 points a game under McKenna, we've put ourselves in a position where one month of excellent results, 5 wins in a row, probably puts us into the top 6. Those runs do happen, but 2 in a row is still our maximum for the season so...

We don’t need to win more than 2 in a row in order to get in the play offs. A ‘Win 2, lose 1’ sequence until the end of the season would be enough.
