Rugby Union on 12:30 - Mar 14 by MattinLondon | On the pitch Rugby Union seems to be more open to change than what football is. I like the sin bin idea to be imported into football. Possibly not for a yellow card but say for a second yellow card. However rugby Union, off the pitch, is still appears to be quite backward. For example, football is used to evening kickoffs on various days of the week but Union seems to want to stick to traditional kickoffs. |
They play Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays, not sure why that seems backward?

Rugby Union on 21:23 - Mar 13 by EdwardStone | It is the homo-erotic thing about sticking your head up your mate's jacksie and calling it "Sport" That and the brutality of the P E teachers at school who delighted in beating the crap out of small boys under the guise of teaching us this " Sport" |
Sounds like you had very bad coaches. The scrummaging/rucking technique they were teaching you sounds particularly odd.

Rugby Union on 12:47 - Mar 14 by Darth_Koont | They spread the fixtures over the weekend pretty well to be fair. And a lot of evening kickoffs. The reason they don’t have midweek fixtures is that the protocols don’t allow for more than a game a week roughly. So midweek games would mean teams and schedules getting out of sync. The risk of head injuries the main reason for making sure there’s 5-6 days between games at a minimum but also because players wouldn’t be able to cope physically with the wear and tear. And even with just one game a week, full contact training is kept to an absolute minimum for the same reasons. There’s also little to no need for midweek games as the season is 30-40 games unlike football’s 50-60 games. |
Oh ok. Didn’t think of the threat of head injuries.

Rugby Union on 13:27 - Mar 14 with 227 views | bariotneblue | I used to be quite the avid rugby fan. Until I went to Twickenham that is. An awful day surrounded by seriously unpleasant people, overly obsessed with the tactical side of it coupled with a gladatirorial blood lust. Doesn’t help that the england team were a particularly unsavoury bunch (Dylan Hartley at the helm). At school I played to a pretty high level but, perhaps I was unlucky, my teammates were particularly unpleasant. The only time I’ve ever been beaten up was by a group of rugby players because I confronted them about being unpleasant to a female friend of mine. I don’t know what it is, but it seems to attract a rather different type of person. Not that football is free of it of course. But In my personal experience I feel far more at home surrounded by regular football fans. And football, for me, has more tactical nuance. Rugby just seems to be bigger/faster the better. Nothing against anyone who loves it of course. Not for me any more.
