Interesting bit in the Athletic today about keepers wasting time 16:17 - Mar 29 with 2106 viewsIllinoisblue

The Huddersfield keeper has been booked five times this season for time wasting. The article is almost celebratory in its tone and fails to ask why referees are yet to send off a keeper for time wasting. I guess it’s because time wasting is obvious yet not so obvious as a bad foul. Still, would love to see a ref brave enough to show two yellows to a keeper.

That is true, but when judging acceptable period of time, that just feels like it would be more contentious than blowing for a foul.

All this said, if we somehow get to Wembley and are 1-0 up with four minutes of injury time left, I fully expect Walton to s5ithouse as if his life depends on it.

That malarky WBA got up to recently with long throws was mildly irritating as well.
They were refused a towel, so the long throw specialist would amble over to the away end to use a supporter’s sweatshirt to dry the ball.

A rule that the nearest player when the ball goes out has to take the throw in might help as well…
Only problem I can see is that Luke Chambers’ balls into the channels would have resulted in the parking attendant having to take it.

Saw a good idea from Mark Clatenburg the other day where if you get done for time wasting then the decision reverses.

Take too long over a Goal Kick and of ref blows up it is a corner, too long over a throw in and the other team get it etc

Or it’ll have the reverse effect as refs (especially in big PL or Play-off matches) won’t want to do anything deemed controversial and so will be more lenient to time wasting.

Works in hockey. If the team without the set piece delay it or show dissent, then the set piece gets advanced by 10 yards as well as a card for the offender. Hockey is, partly as a result, a much faster game. The clock is also kept off the pitch and stopped by the officials for interruptions to the match.
