Stokes it is then. on 20:59 - Apr 28 by XYZ | Flintoff's bowling action was made to create injuries - the position of his left foot in his delivery stride - Stokes action is much better. Stokes has a much better cricket brain than any of Root/ Flintoff/ Botham - if they can keep him fit then I think he'll make a pretty good captain. England haven't had a decent captain since Nasser. Stokes could be in that league, although he doesn't have the core talent that was available to Nasser. |
But we aren't debating whose bowling action was worse for causing injuries, I'm saying Stokes hasn't demonstrated he has yet made the link between over bowling himself and worsening preexisting injuries, he shouldnt have been bowling at all in the West Indies, yet he did to try and win lost causes of games and this will be crucial to his captaincy because he will tend to back himself & overbowl more overs than he should rather than delegate the bowling to others, to try and take wickets, just like he likes to sway the momentum in batting, And this will lead to more fatigue and more injuries and it just spirals. Even the press who are in full ECB cheerleader mode about it are finishing their pieces with the next England captain search starts now and needs to be ready within 12months because that's probably the time frame it will take to wreck Stokes physically playing all 3 forms and as captain of a dysfunctional test side And remember the next Ashes series is only a year away, has anyone at the ECB in this appointment stated its our intention to win that series and Stokes will be the captain to lead us to do it, and if not, why haven't they said that ?

Out of interest, do you have a better idea for captain, than Stokes? I genuinely can't think of anyone apart from Root and Stokes that would guarantee a place in the team.

"if they can keep him fit" I'd worry about this summer rather than next - that's part of how they got where they are. So, who would you have appointed?
