very nervy start by Wes. He was mostly just trying to do the safe short passes, then hit a long crossfield ball straight to the Dutch. Then after a thrown in played back to him, he tried a Cruyff turn. In his own half. Against the Dutch. In Rotterdam. Not good.
The Dutch are a fantastic team, and in reality almost every Welsh player is finding it really hard out there. They are getting caught in possession and out fought, and the Dutch have superb attacking players. It could have been a demolition in the 1st half. Then Brennan Johnson just takes a through ball and sublimely outwits the Dutch keeper to slot it in the corner across him.
After that, I thought the Welsh grew in confidence, and Wes did his defensive duties really well from there on. There's no doubt, Wes is not at his best down the left touchline. And without Janoi doing the 1-2s with him. But clearly he has been tasked with a more defensive role than he plays at Town. |  |

Yes there's a gulf in class, but boy do they play for that shirt, every time they turn up. The players clearly enjoy playing for their country, no bad apples (there must be a reason Tom Lawrence isn't being selected). The team photos sum the team spirit up.
