It often feels like much has to have been scripted/rehearsed. However, true comedy geniuses are able to do some remarkable stuff off the cuff too.

I'll tell you now as someone who's worked in "unscripted" TV - NOTHING is off the cuff, exec producers and channels heads are far too terrified of that. On one panel show I worked on, the head honchos had to have a word with Russell Kane because he was reluctant to use jokes written by joke writers during seemingly 'improvised banter' moments
