Found it all very moving. Really well orchestrated & organised. A credit to our nation, of whom I feel incredibly proud of tonight. Sat & watched it with my dear wife, who held it together far better than I did. If that was a movie, everyone would be blown away, but that was real people there. So well done by everyone involved, it was an honour to watch. Day to remember long into the history books.

As I posted elsewhere just now I was on Whitehall for the procession. What you don’t see is the hours of prep going on by security and police staff that had already been working round the clock for days. Inspection teams checking for explosives. Snipers taking positions. All so impressive as you would expect for something they’ve been rehearsing monthly for about twenty years.
One thing I definitely came away with was a feeling that we will lose so much if we do away with it all. It’s an anachronism but a glorious one. What goods an elected president going to do anyways?!

With these things, it’s about what you don’t see just as much as what you do. There are plenty of truly amazing people in this country. They were out in force today. Professionalism, duty, consummate skill, creativeness, dedication, hard work and much more.
I held my breath for them a little today - and it all went just as it should.

Me and my eldest hiked up Skiddaw in the lakes on that day. Far more satisfying.
I was up the Glyders in Snowdonia. Went and did the same route for William's wedding (including failing to go up Tryfan due to sore feet - again). Partly in memory of my father, who I was with in 1981.

The two things (supporting some form of slimmed down monarchy, at least till someone comes up with a system which means we wouldn't get an elected President Johnson) and having a country that's decently, compassionately, competently & intelligently run, aren't mutually exclusive y'know.
Gloves off at midnight! (tho I'll probably have gone to bed by then, soz).

Ha, indeed the Pres. Johnson argument resonates - I'm thinking more Stephens Fry or Hawking - Ireland style.
The economic brown stuff is about to hit the fan (as opposed to the real brown stuff hitting the rivers) however much (or not) the dressing up and blowing trumpets has distracted one.

Nice. That's a lovely loop. There's lots of nice walks in N wales, but that's my favourite.

Did they walk from London to Windsor? I presumed there were additional troops and bands waiting at windsor to carry it on.
Didnt watch it and just caught some highlights last night.
No, Charles & Camilla didn't walk from London to Windsor
I was referring to the hour-long shuffle as they followed the coffin around 'ceremonial London' - Cenotaph, Horseguards, Buck Pel, Royal Albert Hall etc.
If you like pageantry, the changing of the guard at the Presidential Palace in Santiago is hugely impressive. We also managed to pre-book a guided tour of the palace & there were only 2 other people on it (it involves negotiating a web site in Spanish, providing passport details etc) so it was like a private tour. Our knowledgeable guide went into huge detail about the events of the Chilean military coup & the death of Allende.
