We do pageantry well don’t we? on 14:47 - Sep 19 by Ryorry | I'm just relieved it all went off without some horrendous security 'incident'. The music, as always on these state occasions, was particularly moving - including the muffled Big Ben, and the glorious bells of Westminster Abbey in their peals afterwards. She was a good 'un; we'll not see her like again. R.I.P. |
Two of the bells date back to Elizabeth 1st time. Working where I did, I often used to hear them and it was always quite a buzz to hear a sound Queen Liz 1, James, Charles and the rest would have heard. It’s an area with a fascinating history. I’m glad it all seemingly went to plan this week. It was a quite an extraordinary. Oddly, I think the slow journey in the rain to Buckingham Palace last Wednesday was the most moving bit for me. People stopping on the hard shoulder, just standing.

We do pageantry well don’t we? on 11:43 - Sep 19 by solomon | The pipers and drummers was a goose bump moment if there ever was one. |
I was relieved not to see any maids milking, as Christmas seems to get earlier each year as it is.

We do pageantry well don’t we? on 16:39 - Sep 19 with 1431 views | IPS_wich | I’m back in the UK because my Dad (who has been going to Portman Rd since 1958) is desperately ill in hospital. The Queen passed away whilst I was on the flight from Australia - and I haven’t been able to cope with all of the mourning given what’s going on with Dad. But shortly after the funeral started we got the call to say he was out of immediate danger - so for the first time I’ve been able to watch some of the coverage without descending into a heap. The pageantry and parade has been out of this world - unlike anything I’ve seen before and something we should be so proud of. Only spoilt by all the religious guff - because as it always does it seems to want to focus on God rather than the person who has passed away. What an incredible woman she was.

Good to hear your dad is out of immediate danger fella. The pageantry has been magnificent. GSTK.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Me too - and the corgis, particularly the one on the right (called Mick, would you believe!) who looked properly mournful. And the piper. And then the coffin finally disappearing into the vault was quite a shock - had thought that would only be in the private family ceremony later. A friend told me a few months ago, that allowing family dogs to see the bodies of their late owners helped the dogs to understand why those people had suddenly disappeared from their lives, so that they didn't feel 'abandoned' by them.

Yes, it's much more tiring to shuffle along slowly than stride out. No easy task for Charles & Camilla either, 73 & 75 respectively, even if they are in good health for their age.

“Mick” is actually Muick ,named after a Scottish loch apparently.

We do pageantry well don’t we? on 18:59 - Sep 19 with 1153 views | Coastalblue | I went along today, and I'm frankly amazed to find myself typing that. Very much doubt I would have even considered it but my sister and neice came down last night and stayed overnight so they could head there this morning. It was a remarkable event, I've never experienced anything remotely colose to it and the size of the operation to make it happen was awe inspiring. What made it so very British for me though was walking through to the West this morning and being constantly hailed to buy a programme for a fiver, a flag for a fiver, or a rose for a fiver, 'this one ere, in me left 'and, David Beckham touched that'

It sounds an amazing experience and certainly looked it on the tv. It’s a one off really. I can’t imagine the work involved choreographing and organising something on such a massive scale.

I know it's been planned for years, but nevertheless to close off one of the busiest parts of one of the busiest cities in the world, while arranging for around a million people to journey in from outside the city, not to mention large numbers of world leaders and do it all with the highest levels of security and put on that level of slick pomp and pageantry was truly awe inspiring.

I remember that day. Went to an anti-Royal Wedding party the night before & then to Goodwood races on the wedding day. We then went to drink at The Bear in Oxford & crashed out at a friend's place for the night. I turned up at work at about 10:30 the next day & received some very frosty glances. It looked really tricky at times, esp going up the steps into St George's Chapel, and the lifting from waist height to their shoulders. They did an impeccable job 👠

I’ve seen bits and pieces of it for previous state occasions and been involved with Remembrance Sunday in Whitehall/Horseguards in different ways for a number of years but the complexity, timing and sheer numbers involved this week and particularly today are truly mind blowing. All involved should be very very proud. The Queen would be and the King and his family will be.
