last night.
Firstly...its not an exhaustive sample size but interesting to hear their views on the fiscal situation.
Both are Tory voters and extremely staunch...in 30 years I've never heard them so disparaging of their own party to the point where both admitted that they would not vote for the current PM.
They were both genuinely concerned about where we are heading financially, both are very much capitalists and have been very strong in their view of 'work harder, help yourself, don't rely on the state etc.'. Interesting to hear them both recognise that right now...people need help and are struggling like hell.
Without pro.pting from me, they both were discussing and agreeing their party have got it wrong and that cuts to taxes, right now, only help a minority.
As I say, I was rather taken aback!

Interesting, thanks Homer. The IMF critique would seem to come from the same sort of place. It's just hedge funders and free market extremist nuts like Alistair health or lilco left supporting the govt now. [Post edited 28 Sep 2022 8:26]

I was at a "town hall" meeting with my MP last night. I'm in a part of the world where you can stand a shaved chimp with a blue rosette and it'll win.
Our MP got battered from pillar to post last night
Credit him for giving it a go, but he's clearly been fed lines from cchq on some things, and, unfortunately for him, when he started quoting numbers and statistics, I decided to fact check them as he went and rebutted a lot of them.
He wasn't so keen on that!
Said at the end he was a bit surprised how hostile it was.
Given we're "home turf" for a Tory, I can only imagine how much heat they are getting in marginals right now. |  | | |

Well it's not rocket science is it. Staunch tory or hard left, i think anyone with a jot of intelligence can see they are making a pigs ear of this
The only people who thing they are doing the right thing are Kwarteng and Truss.
When you get the IMF making statements as you have you know the country is being led by people that haven't got a scooby. I mean you could probably have put anyone in charge and not have them make such a mess as they have in 2 weeks.
Its actually slightly terrifying as potentially there is months even a year or two *shudder* of this, so that by the time there is any change it's actually all a bit too late and we will feel this not for a few years but decades. |  |

I was chatting to my Mum on Sunday - 72 years old and only ever voted Conservative. Reads the Telegraph, is pretty wealthy, was a local Tory councillor in the 80s and worships Thatcher.
Her two comments:
- This budget is perhaps the most disgusting thing I have ever seen from a British Government in my life.
- I don't think I can vote at the next election (and this is someone who despite not having been born at the time sees herself as part of the suffragette movement because she 'broke the glass ceiling' in the 70s/80s)
