Heard lots about this match over the years, but never seen the goals... some kind person just uploaded the match featured on the big match. (Ipswich at 36:30)
I went to New Writtle Street in the early 1990's to watch them play cambridge city after an Essex pre-season cricket match was washed out and it was shortly after condemned. I'm amazed 15k managed to fit in there, made Layer Road look like the San Siro.
And this might be sacrilege, but Gerry Harrison wasn't that great a commentator was he? As a youngster he was the voice of Ipswich football, but looking back. Crikey.

....can't remember it's name, flat roof, looked like a "council estate pub", that was lively before the match too.
Before my time but guessing the Bird in Hand if right outside the ground. Queens Head and Orange Tree (probably the closest to describe flat roof) 3 mins away from the old ground.

It’s funny how council estate pub works so well as a description. Immediately brings to mind Maidenhall’s Smock. Flat roof, couple of tape-repaired windows, England flags flying, few bits of broken glass in the car park. Puddle of days-old puke off to the side. Bring me home!
....German Shepherd on the roof, barking non stop.
