Cricketers wear sunglasses with these as seeing the ball against the sky is very important. Is there any rule about players wearing them? Would heading the ball would be a problem (albeit keepers are rarely called to do that). |
Interesting really, with so much at stake in football you'd have thought someone somewhere would have tried to come up with something - maybe it's deemed a "dangerous accessory", similar to rings or other jewellery. Can't recall a keeper heading a ball, but clashing of heads is certainly poss.
Might have answered my own question there, but you'd have thunk someone could come up with a soft material for them, similar to soft contact lenses. Maybe there's a Dragons Den opening for someone to come up with instantly reactive contact lenses! |  |

I only have a vague memory of that, even with your reminder - maybe it was only allowed for medical reasons? Nevertheless, they must have been deemed safe if he was OK'd to go on with them, so yes, interesting as to why not taken up by others. | |

Yes, they were special ones with reactive lenses that had to special approval. I know a lad with poor eyesight who has a special pair of prescription ones he wears to play youth football. |  |
