Morsy’s influence 07:38 - Dec 27 with 2086 viewsibbleobble

I thought he was outstanding yesterday. His ball retention was fantastic and his ability to win the ball back, close the distance or get opponents heads down was second-to-none. Such a great acquisition.

Do we think we’d be in second place and challenging without him given we have no others like him in our squad and he’s clearly playing in a division below his level?

He is the beating heart. He sets standards off and on the pitch. I agree with what you say in terms of retention and winning the ball. He is also great at driving us up the pitch.

I don’t know where we’d be without him, other than to say, this is a club with good backing and knowledge in terms of what is needed to get up/out of the league.

The partnership he has with Evo is awesome.

Yeah I agree, him and Evans compliment each other perfectly. We saw it in fits-and-starts last season, which really was the hallmark of Cook’s time here, signs it was starting to work but without ever really clicking into gear. Those two this season have been a cut-above.

In a congested midfield yesterday, they always had that extra yard which was great to see.

The pairing of Morsy and Evans is pretty much perfect - all aspects of midfield play covered between them. Loads of good stuff with the ball, but importantly all the ugly stuff off it too. Morsy has (mostly) done a much better job of staying the right side of the disciplinary line too this season - there is no way you can play the way he does and avoid picking up bookings, but he seems just a bit more controlled to me.

Agree with this for the most part… the only addition to the partnership, if I’m being greedy for perfection, is to add more goals for them both.

There was a passage of play yesterday where he retained the ball despite the attentions of 4 opponents, reminded me of a certain Dutch moustache and especiall of a game v Naaaridge that I have failed to locate on YouTube

In a weird way, Morsy and Evans are so exceptional in the middle together that it kind of makes me want to sign more midfielders in January!

They're the heartbeat of the team, but with Ball and Camara out and Humphries excellent but still so young, I'd be tempted to go for Taylor and Luongo if that were possible. I'm just terrified about injuries/suspensions for Morsy and Evans now and I guess I just want some reassurance!

Both superb yesterday, complete midfield performances.

There is no harm in having sound back up and quality to share minutes. With Humphries, Ball and Camera all under contract it’s probable loans suit for now, but it might be that we spend with one eye on having game readiness and next season. Morsy and Evo are not getting any younger.
