It is generally thought that MK Dons last year was our biggest away following in the league, but I would suggest , and unfortunately there is no way to collaborate this, it may have been at Layer Road in the 1950s. Both teams were near the top of Division 3 South. I remember there was an attendance of 18,000 crammed in with no segregation, but I would say that around half were Town supporters. The match was a dreadful 0-0 and Benny Fenton hit the bar with a penalty. Any more old timers remember that? |  | | |  |

I remember cup games at Forest and Luton with thousands of Town fans. I recently read a Luton fan saying our support was huge that day. |
I went to both those games and I think the Forest game was something like 6000 fans |  |

Coincidentally I saw a photo of the Holt end at that game on twitter recently. It was really noticeable how more packed our side was compared to City’s. Being in the crowd on the day though I don’t really remember it being that cramped. But them my abiding memory of the day though was the disappointment of losing. Oh, and the Villa fans getting in the back of the stand towards the end of the game! |

Seen that repeated on ITV a couple of times. That tie at Soton in 1991 was bloody large as well. Never seen any official figures but I can recall home fans being cleared from that Archer Road end to make room for our lot who just seemed to keep coming and coming as we approached kick off. |

We went on the coaches and got there mega-early (as they always do), so we were at the back of the middle pen.
The away terrace at Southampton wasn't the biggest, so they then had to clear the pen to the left of us of home fans, and once the terracing behind the goal was full, they started on the seats to the right.
When Dozzell gave us an early lead, the Saints fans in the adjoining seats didn't like it much.
Funnily enough, there was a lot more room in the terrace sections once the teams had come out and everyone let go of their blue and white balloons. |  |

I was there sitting in the stand just along from our 1,000s of fans on the terrace singing and swaying, quite a sight to behold for a 15 year old! I have been to 100s of away games since including Milan, Wembley play off and Arsenal league cup semi but that night at Carrot Road sticks in my memory. |
The guy who lived up our road who I went with had a cousin who lived near the ground at Norwich, so we walked to the ground with them.
He heard they had locked the away turnstiles (don't know how as it was before mobile phones), so he bought us some tickets to go with him in the River End.
There were a few other Town fans in there as well keeping a low profile, and we could hear the Town fans who came on the coaches and were locked out and were made to walk round the ground all night. | |

There was 9,000 at the Emirates for the League cup semi second leg. Certainly the largest domestic away following I've been part of (not counting Wembley obviously) |
Was just shy of 10,000. It was the largest away following at the Emirates up until a few years ago when Cologne had something like 11,000. |  |
