He's gone off the deep end for years now. Kind of surprised it's taken the papers this long to notice.

I’ve never heard of him and there could well be more to the story. But if 26% of white people said that it’s not ok to be black then they would quite rightly be viewed as racist - the same logic should be applied the other way round?

His other comments are quite idiotic.

There is more to it. As "Is it OK to be white?" had previously been used as a trope by racist/white nationalist groups, that would provide a motivation to vote against that specific wording. Besides which, who even poses such an antagonistic question if not a provocateur?

On top of which and active dislike of and wish to be separated from their oppressors has been a strain in US Black activism going back to Marcus Garvey. Hardly surprising given the history and more recent events.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

The recent documentary "Fight the Power: How Hip Hop Changed the World" is really worth watching because it tells the story of hip hop against the backdrop of the Black struggle in the US these last 50 years or so.

And this extends, frustratingly, beyond America.

I actually recall this being discussed here at the time.

Well worth it. I'm actually not that great a fan of hip hop, apart from the early stuff, which is why I started watching, but the historical context got me sucked in. And Chuck D is great.
