Interesting stat I saw today that gives our season some perspective 21:04 - Mar 2 with 2523 viewsGlasgowBlue

In 2005, with the same number of games left as we have now, Ipswich were top of the table six points ahead of both Wigan and Sunderland.

Sunderland finished 9 points ahead of us and Wigan finished 2 points ahead of us.

Could we be this season's Sunderland?

Remember that season well. I believe we went 6pts clear, then promptly lost 3 on the bounce, dropped out of the top 2 and never got back in it.

We could, YES we could!

But will we? Hmmm … not sure!

Would it have been around this time that Kuqi got injured and we lost three (including to Wigan) on the bounce?

Maybe but supporting town has made me relentlessly pessimistic!

I’m REALLY not looking forward to the next couple of games. Park the bus and nick an equaliser. For that reason I’m actually less daunted for the Barnsley, Bolton and Derby games - I think t they’ll suit our game more.

Perspective? I’m just thinking we fked up from a good position then and are likely going to fk it up now.

Kidding. I still think we’ll finish 2nd

There were also outside factors at play. Joe Royle had won his court case against Manchester City, they had it overturned, on appeal, a few days before the Wigan game.

I can't help but think what would've happened had we gone up that season.

You'd have been rubbing the foot of the Joe Royle statue for luck before each home game,
