I was there. We had seats in the lower part of the man stand about four rows from the pitch.
We’d parked in New Cross down a side street, as you did, but had an inkling things might get a bit lively. So had MFC. They put on a Wild West show before the game. All hay bales, people firing fake Winchester Repeaters, lassoos, and rolling around.
All that little lot did was give the locals ideas! We agreed that this was one place where we’d sit in stony silence. There was trouble all over the place, then George Burley thundered in the first goal from about 25 yards and it really kicked off.
I guess the game finished at about 5.30 in the end. In between George’s goal and the final whistle mayhem. It wasn’t helped by the fact that not only were we a lot better than them and kept hammering in the goals. Six of them. Mariner I think helped himself to a hat trick and Wark thundered one in the top corner with me thinking ‘oh nooooo, this isn’t helping the mood’.
After the game, we waited under the main stand with like minded locals (human ones) for about 45 mins before sneaking away. What a day. In the evening it was on Match of the Day. Jimmy Hill didn’t hold back and neither did Robson.
For those who were there, a day never to forget.
Postscript: Some years later, I worked in that area for a couple of years and used to go to the Den if they were at home and I’d been working in the morning, including 5he odd ITFC game. It was ok. For atmosphere, it was better than the New Den. However, it was built on a rubbish dump and it showed.

Gosh, you were young. Lucky you! I was 8 before I was taken to my first game.
Think they started taking me to Town games at least a year before that. Prior to that we had lived in Scotland for a few years and I was a regular at the mighty Arbroath ( including watching um play Kenny Dalglishs Celtic in the cup)from perhaps 4-5 years old.

Yer nothing in Scottish football until you have scored more then 35 goals in one game...
On the same day Dundee Harp scored 37 against Aberdeen Rovers. However there was some confusion over the count so they settled on 35-0, sadly only the second highest score of the day.
