Hmm. Replicas will continue with them then. Altho can't see many companies being interested if their brand can't be seen on matchdays especially on tele.

I dare say that it's a co-ordinated token gesture to try and head off further action by the government. If you consider the visibility of other forms of gambling advertising - hoardings, advertising elsewhere on shirts, stadium sponsorships etc., then this is very much one of the least-worst options for the gambling firms. It could well be that it's been a negotiated agreement between the clubs and the gambling firms in order to protect other interests. Similarly, it may well be that clubs end up being sponsored by companies such as DafaNews and News365 in the same way as already happens in countries where gambling is banned.

I think there's an argument that the betting firms won't care about front-of-shirt sponsorship as long as they can retain the ability to advertise on the pitch-side hoardings. Over the course of a televised game, I imagine you'd get far more visibility from hoardings as opposed to shirts.

About time isn't it on 13:49 - Apr 13 with 975 views | BigCommon | Nothing to suggest they won't advertise on the backs and sleeves of shirts, or shorts, or tracky tops.... As already mentioned, the Devil is in the detail... Still a step in the right direction, though.

It's much too little, too late as well, in my view. Deeply problematic gambling behaviours are now becoming embedded in wider football culture. Took in a game in a pub a few weeks ago and the amount of ads for gambling firms, website, etc, etc on Sky during matchday coverage in particular is shocking. Next table from me was a fella and his two kids who were no older than 14 tops. Dad had a bet on and had also laid beings 'for' his kids. At various points during the game as live scores form other game scam in he was asking the kids stiff like 'do you want to cash out yet'. [Post edited 13 Apr 2023 18:00]
