Clarke returned earlier than planned to see them over the line. They had gone on a run of eight wins from nine under Crosby, but then lost three on the bounce. Clarke oversaw a win at Exeter on final day to get them into the play offs, then an aggregate win over Swindon before thrashing Mansfield at Wembley.

Thrashing Mansfield at Wembley was a hell of an achievement. In League 2 every season it seems that Mansfield are in fact the best team - the strongest, fastest, most skilled ... but every season they manage to mess it up. I think even this season Mansfield and Stockport are the best teams, despite Orient's runaway lead.
