Are you kidding? Hurst was streets ahead of any worst manager we've ever had.

Superblue95 appears to have a short memory. He forgets that all the permanent players who took us down were signed by Hurst, they were adrift at the bottom when Lambert came in, and all he had to change things was a Jan window when no-one wanted to come here.

As I said earlier, that's not absolving Lambert of blame, he should've done better. But it's a huge bit of context rather than just saying "Lambert took us down."

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

In my opinion, the blame for relegation largely falls in Hurst's lap. The players we lost and then replaced with mainly massively inferior L1 or L2 players without any experienced Championship players.

I'm fairness, I think Hurst was just massively out of his depth at that level more than he was poor. You could then point the finger at Evans for giving Hurst the job.

But a lot were crying out for a young, promising manager at the time, but alarm bells started ringing pretty early for me. As I say, he was out of his depth but for me, he was the main reason for us getting relegated.

Poll: Lambert goes, would you prefer an ex-Town connection replacement or not?

Lambert did his best and I think out of all our managers under Evans he came the closest to being honest about the state the club was in.

He actually got us playing some good football on arrival and there were some decent performances. I will never forget West Brom away in 2019. Really defiant performance from players and fans that day and Jackson was excellent

I agree that his management style / tactical approach became outdated. Perhaps Culverhouse was the missing piece.

For all the 'PR Paul ' stuff he tried to do the right thing bringing ex players in and showing appreciation for fans.

Also for all the ridiculousness of it, I quite enjoyed the carrot rud dustup and his 'I won't let the club's name be disrespected like that'.

No need for the vitriol in my opinion.

Disgusting post.

Keane had MILLIONS more in funding AND had a reasonable squad to start with (we were only just outside the play offs).
He was taking us towards League 1 even if he was sacked before he relegated us.
Lots of his squad needed a clear out.

Town were already headed to League 1 when Lambert came in, with a terrible squad assembled by Hurst. I'm not saying that absolves him of blame but comparing the hand he was dealt with Keane's is chalk and cheese.

Only 5 points adrift when Lambert came in ffs. He didn’t play us the way we should’ve played for a relegation dogfight. All down to him.

That is completely uncalled for. There is no way of ever knowing how well Lambert might have done under a decent owner. He was forced to work with utter scraps!

Shut up.

Mick managed it very well for years.

How on earth can you say "All down to him" when the players were all bought by Hurst?

We were only 5 points adrift. 5, with over half the season left to play.

We needed a Mick McCarthy or a Neil Warnock, not someone who had to try and win over the fans first and then try and play a style of football that didn’t work.

Doesn't matter if you were 1 point or 50 point off safety, if you haven't got the players and the club is a mess on and off the field, your task is already difficult.

You cite your love in for Mick (or McCarthy) etc, so you should blame Evans for appointing Lambert in the first place as much as you can blame him for choosing Hurst.

I would have hoped Lambert could have rescued us, but the majority of the damage was already done and we were a sinking ship full of holes everywhere. Lambert couldn't plug in the gaps well or quick enough, but blame Evans and Hurst for creating the holes in the sinking ship in the first place!

I heard you the first time. 5 points adrift at the bottom still suggests we had a terrible team, none of which were bought by Lambert, and all he had to change that was the Jan window when no-one decent wanted to come here, and he had very little money to spend.

Yeah, he could've done better with terrible raw materials. But nevertheless, you still can't say relegation is all his fault. It's like blaming a fireman after an arsonist burns your house down.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

And Lambert was promised funds for players in January which Evans didn't come up with. Instead we had to get in loanees.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Didn't know that, but wouldn't be surprised.

The idea that relegation was all Lambert's fault is ludicrous.
