How do we feel about this team for Sunderland 21:49 - Aug 1 with 3602 viewsunstableblue

Hladky
Donacien Wolfenden Burgess Davis
Morsy Taylor
Burns Chaplin Hutchison
Hirst

It relies on Donacien and Taylor putting in a performance

But it’s a set of players who in the main know each other very well and buy into the system

Perhaps Harness got Hutchison and Evans for Taylor a possibility.

Hladky has looked good in pre season

Sunderland will likely be fielding several players who featured for them in League 1. They've strengthened, but I don't think the squad they went up with was as good as ours (and our respective League 1 performances would back that up), and they've lost their best player from last season in Amad Diallo. Much as people are cautioning against underestimating the step up in the Championship, we also need to be mindful of not overestimating it too.

That’s a fair point, just that Sunderland have already coped (and coped very well) with a season in the championship, our team is relatively unknown at this level.

As I say, add the injured players back in, plus one or two new faces in the starting XI, we’ll just be fine and dandy.

RIP Sir Bobby

Agree - consensus is Harness over Hutchison if Broadhead crocked on 10:37 - Aug 2 with 422 viewsunstableblue

Not sure Hutchinson will start. But might come of the bench last 10-15 minutes..... He's a kid with very little first team experience, and they'll be 40k crowd, mostly hostile..
Think Harness will get the nod if Broadhead is out. He's looked quite sharp pre season... We might even look to bring experience off the bench, in the shape of Aluko, for instance.
Lots of thoughts knocking about. Be interesting to see who is deemed available, and how we set up for a tough away game in this division.

I think you're right about Aluko; we may see some selections that surprise us

Ball over Evans/Taylor for example

Or Aluko in and Burns to full back?!?!

As you state its a 40k+ hostile crowd which influences selection... Hutchuson, Jackson and Ladapo will be great options on 60/70mins

12 months ago they were in the same situation as us and then they coped (and coped very well). No reason at all why ours can't too.

I'd not feel too confident, whilst that is a very good League One team, I have major doubts over them competing with the likes of Sunderland in the Championship.

Bring back Walton, Clarke, Luongo, Broadhead it looks a lot better, add the 2/3 signings Ashton talks about, we are there.

Surely a lot (if not all) our signings the last year or 2 were in a view of being ion this league:-

Davis
Chaplin
Morsy
Walton
Broadhead
Burns etc etc.

I don't think we need many if any more to "compete". If we want to win the league, then yes we probably need a whole new 11.....

Not sure what people are expecting or have been spoilt from the last few months of last season.
