Match thoughts - can we be issued with individual defibrillators for each game? 20:52 - Aug 6 with 836 viewsunstableblue

I mean what madness was that game?!

We were outclassed for much of the first half, and even quality players like Broadhead were struggling to play at their best. Morsy was really being outfought and outpressed.

Yet surely we had the better overall of the chances? Jobes sitter miss aside.

Second half we just managed to get into gear, not at our best but enough, and our ‘in the D’ interplay with Broadhead, Chappers and Hirst started to really hurt them. Then great goals.

Then a a stonewall penalty for us not given.. after a great move. WtF?

Then they go to 10 and it’s the feckin Alamo… we lost our heads and gave them the impetus and a goal.

I have to say Sunderland fans should be ashamed of themselves… they left in their droves before they pulled one back. It was weird. Black Cats threw in the towel - why?!

So overall not at our best… but to take 3 points whilst learning some serious lessons, well bingo!

But as I said yesterday having watched the Championship highlights show - this is a complete step up in technical quality and press.

We will need to be much better against Stoke.

Apologies - I forget to say Hladky saved us the 3 point, and became immense (n/t) on 21:05 - Aug 6 with 744 viewsunstableblue

I think most games are going to be similar this season. We will have periods where we won't be on top and we have to dig in and show different qualities. Ipswich teams of yesteryears would have ended up drawing that.

I remember a game 25 years ago now, when Town played Sunderland on Sky in one of the first games of the season, that there Kevin Phillips scored, we lost 2-0, we had a decent team that season and shouldnt have lost that game, but we did.

people will have to get to the new normal that is we will lose games in the championship, we wont win games that easily, we will be under pressure alot more than in L1.

I’m not sure we’ll face a more fired up and energetic press this season?? on 10:30 - Aug 7 with 483 viewsunstableblue

Lunongo confirms just what a ferocious press they faced in the first half, and we struggled to a man to cope.

I think this was because Sunderland were just that good, and that fired up. A continuation of their play-off form and energy.

I’m just not sure we’ll have more sterner tests…. However, other teams will have better strikers.

But that was intense. I think Stoke are going to be another huge test; but Sunday was a real lesson for us.

To get three points and build some experience and tenacity… a perfect game and result.

I was really happy with the performance personally.

I think Sunderland asked us some tough questions as expected. But aside from the Bellingham sitter. We had much the better chances. Should've had a penalty, we were brave and continued to play football the right way even when under pressure. Really happy with it.
