Peeling hard-boiled eggs 12:18 - Sep 4 with 5153 views | ThisIsMyUsername | Currently conducting general research with regards to the quickest and easiest way to peel hard-boiled eggs. I've seen everything from shaking them around in a cup, to using a spoon to scrape around the inside of the shell. Suggestions welcome please.

Peeling hard-boiled eggs on 16:06 - Sep 5 by GeoffSentence | There's nothing basic or simple about denuding eggs. |
It must be a moment of great wonder to see a peeled egg in its glistening whiteness for the first time, and I understand the necessity of taking care not to strip of their dignity so that they can feel proud of their appearance. Do you ever feel the need to stop before you peel them or do you just crack on regardless ?

At the peak of my powers I used to whip through them at speed, popping them out like peas. Even pointies, I was that good.

Peeling hard-boiled eggs on 12:15 - Sep 11 with 448 views | ThisIsMyUsername | Update. I tried the 'shaking the egg in a glass' and also using a teaspoon around the inside of the shell methods. Unfortunately these just resulted in too much of the egg being wasted as it was stuck to the shell. So I am no closer to finding my personal egg-shelling method. It took me about 20 minutes to shell my 12 eggs last night, as the shells came off in about a million different pieces with said egg sticking as well. I wonder if it is a cooking issue. To speed up the initial cooking process, I have been putting boiling water directly into the pan from the kettle, rather than putting in cold water and waiting for it to boil. But different places suggest either option. I then time for 7 minutes whilst lightly boiling. Perhaps just a simmer is needed. I also put them into cold water with ice for about 5 minutes after cooking while doing other things. Was this perhaps too long and caused the eggs to solidify against the shells too much? Please help me someone. No one should have to shell like this, especially in this day and age. GeoffSentence are you there to offer your expert opinion? Does putting vinegar in at any stage help at all? [Post edited 11 Sep 2023 12:17]

Tangentially related, but the "shake them in a glass" method works very well for peeling lots of garlic. Get a jar, tiny bit of water and then loads of garlic. Shake the jar for like a minute and then you've got yourself peeled garlic. Wouldn't bother for a few cloves (always just smash them with a knife and peel them) but if you've got a whole clove to do then the jar method is faster.
