I've been to Dubai, I had a great time tbh, but you have to take it for what it is. It's new and shiny and won't satisfy a craving for culture in that respect like an ancient city and such like, but variety is the spice of life. I like going to different places and trying new things when I can, even if they're not typically the environments I would choose to live in. Vegas is the same, very much Disney land for adults, but the sheer exuberance and ridiculousness of the place makes it somewhere worth visiting IMO. Not somewhere I would hurry back to for a fortnight with the family though.
Dubai is nowhere near the top of my list, not even close, I'd much rather spend a weekend pottering around the peak district myself given an either / or, but as a change and an experience it's an interesting place to visit. |
I've been there a few times, but not since having kids and always had a good time - but very much is what it is.
I'm looking to sort my 40th for 18 months time and will prob go there with the kids for 2 weeks (they'll be 8 and 6 then) as have moved into that middle stage between being able to be dragged about places myself and Mrs itfcjoe find more interesting and being able to almost do their own thing. Relatively short hop flight and it's almost that or something resort based in Europe which doesn't float my boat as wouldn't want to go longhaul yet. |  |
