What we learnt from last night 21:34 - Dec 27 with 1840 views | nodge_blue | 1. This team has heart. Unlike anytime since Burley side. 2. Morsey should have had a crack at the PL at some stage of his career. 3. We need bishop from Pompey as a hirst alternative. jackson does try and put a shift in but deep down we all know that hes not the answer, even if it generates some emotive threads. 4. Wish we could combine Harness and Broadhead into one player. 5.We allow the wide players to sit on the touchline but often fail to contain their threat. Im sure thats not escaped Kierons attention. Not sure what the answer is. [Post edited 27 Dec 2023 21:35]

What we learnt from last night on 21:41 - Dec 27 with 1766 views | Keno | 1, indeed 2, Morsy 3, we need someone, in McKenna we trust 4, its like lampard and Gerard all over again 5, maybe that’s the price for the system we play? It would be nice if we started to equalise before the other team took the lead

No worries, I’ve resisted the urge to add to the Morsy man crush thread

What we learnt from last night on 22:06 - Dec 27 with 1570 views | _clive_baker_ | I think to be fair to Mick’s side one thing we never lacked is heart. We certainly lacked depth, budget & quality relative to a number of sides we were up against, but we had the will. What we’re witnessing now is incredible though, the football at times is an absolute joy and the results, of course, superb. Such a together group, great connection with the fans, full of confidence and a never say die attitude. It’s all you can ask for as a supporter. Feels like an important few days for us now, both in terms of points to be won but also the psychological aspect too. We’ve not won since Watford, albeit had some tricky games since, and after Stoke is the next ‘checkpoint’ whereby we have the best part of a fortnight until we’re next in league action. Without meaning to be too dramatic I think the next 4 or 5 days could go a long way to defining the rest of our season. It’s important that we go into that break with continued momentum which 4 or 6 points would give us. Anything less than 3 and we’ll be talking a month without a win by the time we play Sunderland, 3rd place likely very close (we might even be 3rd) and the narrative then very different going in to the final 20 matches. If we go into that break with the sort of gap to 3rd we have now then we’ll have put ourselves in such a strong position. Im not sure about Bishop. I like him, he’s a proper all round centre forward, holds the ball up, works hard, good in the air and can score goals. I just don’t think he fits the profile of where we would be looking to invest the presumably sizeable funds pompey would want to let him go. In terms of his pedigree and age, he’s unproven at this level and it would be atypical of the approach under gamechanger, but I wouldn’t be against it if it happened as we would certainly be signing someone in form. Whatever happens this season its been a treat. It would take horrendous form to finish outside the top 6 now, and the playoffs would still be an excellent achievement, but given where we are today it’s natural to rebase those expectations slightly and dream of automatics.

I cant help feel this great start is an opportunity that we have to try and capitalise on, but also thats its come a season and two transfer windows too soon. My gut feeling is that we need two or three top championship players to get this over the line in a remaining second half of the season that will be harder than the first [Post edited 27 Dec 2023 22:13]

What we learnt from last night on 22:18 - Dec 27 with 1452 views | Nutkins_Return | Pretty much agree. I think Morsy just lacks the outright mobility to be a quality prem player but he would be competitive. Bishop would compliment the squad but ideally someone who would elevate us higher.

I have to disagree a little. If we start the New Year in third by say a point with Leeds close by, we are still in the mix. Watford was only just over a couple of weeks ago. Hard to believe but true. Wherever we are when we play Sunderland, we’ll be going into the business end of the season in a great place and even if we don’t win the next two or three I wouldn’t bet against us finishing the season strongly. If last season taught us anything it was that. On the subject of last season, both Wednesday and Plymouth had extraordinary seasons yet it’s likely only one will survive this time around. If nothing else that shows how tough this division is and how we’ve progressed. I didn’t think we played particularly fluently or well last night, but when others would have caved in, we hung in there. We dug out a deserved point. Grit and determination are every bit as important as skill and ability. I loved that from the lads last night. You could argue that Burley’s late 90s teams could be a tad soft at times. Not this lot! It’s a pleasure to watch them play and grow.

Oh we’ll certainly still be in the mix regardless, I don’t disagree with that. We’ve also got Southampton to come to PR so we’ll have everything to play for. That’s a long way off that one, but it’s quite possible that it’s a huge game when it comes around. I just think the mental side of losing that cushion and chasing a seemingly relentless Southampton might bring a different challenge, and a bit of pressure. The ‘bottled it’ rhetoric that will inevitably circulate perhaps won’t be healthy. We’ve got such great momentum now, as we have all season. I think it’s an important time to put our foot on the gas before the cup break and not let any talk or thoughts of a ‘wobble’ start to manifest. Getting a win against QPR is massive. If we’re heading in to the cup break and those final 20 league games with a 5 point cushion like we have now then I think we’ll do it, I genuinely do.
