I don't mind the cold but the constant clouds are getting incredibly annoying.

Not much point having a hobby that involves being able to see the sky if it's constantly covered in clouds. I think there has been 1 night in the last 1.5 months when it was clear.

Hope this made sense to you Stokie...me, not the foggiest!

I did see that, just another hole in the theories we use to model the universe, at least it'll be some interesting research.

On the one clear day a few days ago I managed to take this image:

The Rosette Nebula, it's about 5000 LY from Earth and about 120 LY in diameter.

That's an awesome photo Stokie . I know that it takes a lot of talent and patience to get such stunning astrophotography results. Do you post any online, I would love to see more ?

It's not that cold though is it. Not one day there where it daytime temperature is freezing or lower. For the middle of winter thats not bad.

I'm still waiting for the 'Freeze Of The Century' that the tabloids and their clickbait generating machines assure me is on the way.

We haven't had anything close to a cold January in years and I think next week's temperatures may get lower yet (possibly very little snow though). You are right to ignore James Madden related media stories but a further cold spell into February could well be on the cards too.

Cheers!

That was taken with a fast refractor (73mm), cooled astro camera, guiding etc.

I wanted more data but the clouds rolled in so it's about 3 hours worth of data with a narrowband filter (L-Extreme).

Do you partake?

I very recently received a 'hand-me-down' Meade LX90 so only just starting out, with our first planetary glimpses this week after endless (seemingly weeks!) of cloudy nights. I also have a photography interest and keen to amalgamate the two in due course.

Nice!

That'll be great for planetary and nebula viewing and you'll also be able to image planets with it very well. It's going to be quite a small FOV for nebula given the focal length but you'll get some great images depending on the target.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, it can be quite daunting starting out.

Many thanks.

I don't post them online, to be honest the weather really has been awful this winter which is the best time due to the long nights. I do have a few more images I can post maybe.
