Do we still have an U23 team? 15:25 - Jan 31 with 1456 viewsParky

Was chatting in the pub the other day and was saying how I don’t think any of our fringe players, or players coming back from injury ever seem to play in our U23’s anymore.

Players like Aluko should be playing in our U23’s to keep match fit, Ball etc too. Surely it makes sense for players coming back from injury - ie Buabo, Donacien.

You could clearly see a number of them looked rusty against Maidstone, but must be hard for someone like Aluko to be chucked into a match environment after not playing for so long.

given the low quality of the u21 league, it's considered that training is of a higher intensity than the u21 games

Buabo played 45 minutes for the U21s last week. In terms of the more senior players, they feel they gt more out of training than U21s matches.

If we were cat 1... Is that just u18 set up or would that effect the u21 level of games too?

If the latter... surely cat 1 would financially be beneficial so your senior squad players can keep match fit not just training fit.

Also. If you do get the ask any questions to KM. Please ask how we didn't have one midfielder outside the senior squad that could have played against a 6th tier side.

a niche perspective

There's a difference between having players outside the senior squad who 'could' have played against a 6th tier side and choosing those players for a match day squad.

It seems to me that a mix of respecting an opponent and using the fixture to get match minutes for squad players who don't often start meant that U21 players weren't in the squad.
