Now, we all like a moan about officials but 18:33 - Feb 13 with 942 views | gainsboroughblue | over the years, what poor decisions stand out that went our way? I'm guessing the Haynes winner at Norwich would be up there. I can remember, what seemed, a blatant offside not given for a Warky (or maybe it was Mariner) winner in a league cup game v QPR and a late Alan Sunderland one v Sheff Weds in the FA Cup a few years later. Don't think any footage remains of the above two examples.

Now, we all like a moan about officials but on 18:43 - Feb 13 with 901 views | Steve_M | Wolves at home in 05-06, trailing 1-0 to a deflected goal a Wolves defender made a perfect tackle in the area visible to the whole North Stand. As the penalty was about to be taken (Matt Richards maybe?) there was a chorus of "We only get sh1t refs". From the TV angle, and probably the ref's (and the away end for that matter) it did look a foul but definitely wasn't.

Now, we all like a moan about officials but on 18:56 - Feb 13 with 853 views | Plums | I'd like to point out that we don't all like a good moan about them. It's a hard job that very few have even ever attempted. As with players, referees make mistakes and can also 'have a stinker' - which for some reason when it's applied to a ref is deemed unforgivable. As in all walks of life, some of them are plonkers. In one of my first games at Portman Road (1980), the ref sent off the wrong opposition player. I seem to remember it was possibly Peter Withe for Villa but I could be wrong - I was only 9 but I do recall it was a case of mistaken identity. However, it had an obvious impact on the game which we went on to win.

He was sent off at Portman Road in 1984 (a double red with Colin Gibson) if that's the one you mean. https://www.prideofanglia.com/page.php?page=matchReport&level=1&day=29&a I think I remember that actually and think you are right and it was Paul Rideout that committed the offence.

I recall that Colin Gibson was sent off for Villa as well as Withe in the same game. Was later than 1980 though so may not be the same match.

I think it was 2 - 1 to Bristol Rovers so that would have made it 3 - 1 Perhaps, that was justice after the Clive Thomas debacle in 1975 !!!!!!!!

Was it Nicky Forster who was "fouled"? If so, I would've been in the North Stand for that one too.

Probably, although he spent a large part of that season injured so hard to tell.

Thanks, that sounds right. Obviously not as early in my Town career as I thought!
