Mbappé to Madrid 18:38 - Feb 19 with 2149 views | BarcaBlue | No surprise there but I just don't get how Madrid can keep signing players on huge wages (an estimated 20 million euros a year) yet they rarely sell players for serious money. They already have big earners in Alaba, Kroos and Modric, and that's without including Vinicius, Bellingham, Courtois, Camavinga, Tchouameni etc.

Don't they sell.... on 19:00 - Feb 19 with 2031 views | Bloots | ....their ground every year and then buy it back for a pittance? Or was that Barca and the car park? Or was it neither? Or have I just made it up?

Mbappé to Madrid on 20:16 - Feb 19 with 1850 views | jayessess | Biggest revenues of any football club in the world (€831.4m in their last accounts), so it's probably that.

I think that can be filed under complete codswallop.

Not bankrolled but there was an issue with them getting unfair subsidies a few years back: https://theweek.com/74151/barcelona-and-real-madrid-to-pay-back-millions-in-ille Basically got favourable treatment in land deals and extra tax breaks (that the European Commission ruled to be illegal).

I get that, and I assume there are a few clubs with similar revenue, but Madrid just seem to be able to stockpile high earners without outgoings. The only 2 I can think of in the last 5 years are Varane and Casemiro.

Not unusual for clubs to spend 70% or so of their revenue on wages, so Real Madrid could probably sustain a wage bill of €550-600m a year off that sort of revenues. Wouldn't be that odd to spend 5% off your wage bill on one player (I suspect Kieffer Moore probably occupies a greater percentage of ours). [Post edited 19 Feb 2024 21:34]

Mbappé to Madrid on 06:14 - Feb 20 with 1409 views | cressi | We have known this all along he couldn't give a hoot that PSG won't get a fee. On a free means bigger wages. As for Madrid biggest club in the world by quite a way. Also I believe Spanish royal family involved.
