Nice to hear the Swifts….. 20:51 - May 17 with 1014 viewsChondzoresk

Walked outside to have 4 going full pelt around the road. Summer is really here now. Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs, abound, plenty of young blackbirds sqwarking and their parents panicking. Great to see more Red Kite now up in north Suffolk too. Anyone else heard or seen anything else?

Cuckoo 2 mornings ago but it is always the swifts I look forward to the most. We are very lucky with nightingales around this way too.

Haven't seen a single House Martin yet, mind you I haven't been looking very hard. Swallows and Swifts but no HMs. No hobbies either.

I've heard 3 cuckoos so far this year, loads of nightingales. Its turtle doves I m on the look out for now. They have been hanging on round my way, but for the last few years it seems to have been a lonely male calling for a mate. I fear that the year will come soon when even he is lost.

Last Turtle Dove I heard was at Redlingfield 4 years ago……the constant purring is a fabulous sound. Shame they are so rare now. Nice to read everyone is hearing Cuckoos.

My solo dove has, or had, a set of perches which he purrs away from in my garden and my neighbours gardens. Have felt quite privileged.

Apparently their favourite food source in the UK is fumitory so I planted load in my garden, unfortunately it turns out that snail really love it too and there's none left now.

Saw loads at Minsmere yesterday - House and Sand Martins, a Hobby, and great views of a nesting Bittern. Hamsa Yassin (the famous birdwatcher from Springwatch/Cbeebies/Strictly fame) was in Hide filming Bitterns for Springwatch and This Morning! He was a lovely bloke and showed me some of what he'd got. It was him that 1st spotted the Bittern.
