TWTD Leagues 05:53 - May 27 with 4631 viewsibbleobble

Phil and Gav, the time has come to introduce some kind of filtering mechanism to this forum based on post votes. 4 divisions of people based on popularity, reason, good humour, common sense and intellect or insight.

Some might call it elitist but id call it good for mental health. I think I’d rather be in a smaller pool of like minded, sensible folk and fear relegation if I didn’t maintain a standard than this sea of noise and nonsense.

The last 2-weeks really have been quite torturous on here and I’m all up for looking for ways to improve this experience. Hopefully it’d put some checks and balances in place and make people think twice before posting.

Any ideas of your own to share to improve the platform?

The platform is what people make of it.

Unfortunately far too many seem unable to scroll past posts that they know are likely to annoy them.

Your idea is based on a voting system which rewards conformity to consensus more than anything else.

Unless you aspire to live in an echo chamber (at one end of the league system)or in a place where everyone disagrees with each other (in the lowest league), you need to go back to the drawing board.

I have no problem with emojis representing a good, rubbish or funny post, but cumulative scores for posters tell you little more than how long they have been conforming to popular opinion for. It's not far off having a social credit score operated by cliiquish, self-appointed brown shirts.

Doesn't need improving. In my opinion, it's perfect just the way it is.

Exactly. I have it on Football only now as don't want all the political stuff. My choice as it is theirs to like it.
I am an old fart but manage in general to navigate it, so it can't be hard for all you youngsters out there.

A vote isn’t conformism, it’s the opposite and my counter to the point about echo chambers is that it can be easily flipped and relabelled as community, which is far more engaging than the disparate format at present.

I take the points and we can debate two sides of the coin flip but a refresh wouldn’t go amiss. There’s clearly a growing unhealthy divide as epitomised by Homer_123’s post the other day, which is what spawned this thread.

Yes, but what better way to make people feel unique and special then by assigning them to a group based on personality types, and rewarding those who are deemed to have higher types. I’m sure that will only improve mental health as you say.

Votes are in many cases just a reflection of how much of their mis-spent youth, middle and old age posters have spent on here though. A ‘votes per post’ % would be a more accurate reflection.

Leagues is probably the wrong term to be fair as it implies hierarchy. Nothing wrong with groups though. There’s no reward that way, just groups or collectives.

And maybe it’s not quantified, maybe it’s qualified but that implies a new system based on meta data.

"A vote isn’t conformism, it’s the opposite"

I should point out that wanting changes to the forum structure is generally against the wishes of those who have accumulated lots of points. They are probably not the majority but they are (for good or bad) the core of this forum.

If you expect to get votes for being non-conformist, I'll see you in the bottom league.

Personally, I couldn't care less about forum votes. It's the Op that wants us all put into leagues/groups based on votes.
Strange idea, but if the forum votes for it, then I guess we go with it.
Think Phil/Gav will be opposed to all the extra work though.

There's not a cat in hell's chance this will happen.

I think the forum could do with a match day thread, an after match thread, speculation thread, and the like as seen on either sites. I know the old guard here don't generally want change but for those of us who are very sporadic visitors to the site, it's a pretty chaotic set up that does make navigation easy especially when you are trying to find an old post from another contributor.

I'm not especially precious about votes either but some people clearly are as I think that they see it as some sort of gauge of their worth/importance here.

I think it's worth displaying the time you've been a member here and the number of posts you've made, but little else.

Unfortunately far too many seem unable to scroll past posts that they know are likely to annoy them.

Worse still, they have to post why it annoys them and then get further annoyed when their reply turns into an argument that they won't let lie themselves.
