Pleased with that actually, expectations won’t be high, less pressure might result in our players being more able to be themselves and play our usual game?

Thinking back to our previous first home game in the Prem and Wilnis’ goal v ManU.

"baptism of fire" springs to mind. But hey, we have to play those teams at some point. May as well bring em on early! If we can get through those OK and get a point or 2 will give us a huge confidence boost though.

Yep, and if we weren't buzzing before ..!

By the same token, more soberingly - if we didn't need to strengthen defensively before ...

I like it. It provides KM with the perfect learning opportunity! We could get tonked in one of those (City away most likely), but as I said on another thread I think the main thing is that we learn to get up to speed with what's needed, and this provides the best opportunity for that.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

We don't know what the team will look like yet. We havent made any signings. I would imagine some defensive players are on KM/Ashton's target list.

Will be interesting to see if KM keeps faith in Hladky or goes for a new keeper.

We've already finished above Chelsea:

Over two hours since the Premier League fixtures went live and Ipswich Town are the sixth most visited club fixture page on BBC Sport.

Only Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham are ahead of the Tractor Boys [sic] - more popular than Chelsea, so far.

Google Trends data also shows Ipswich are one of the most searched for clubs on Google this morning.'

Just added to the stats :)

Am actually nearly drooling in anticipation of the opening game, this really is the best time isn't it.

And not sure how it works out statistically, but seems to me also that it's much harder to finish in the top 2 in Champ & L1 than it is to stay out of the bottom 3 in the Prem, even without other teams' point deductions.

I agree. Liverpool have a new manager so they may take a bit of time to adjust to life without Klopp. City away will always be difficult but I’d rather face them early on before they fully hit their stride
